Conga Workshop

Led by expert drummer and percussionist Nathan Ouellette—the Executive Director of the Alberta Band Association and former owner of Brandenburg Music—this hands-on session is a "learn, play, and hang" community clinic.

The workshop will guide you through:
  • Fundamental Techniques: Master the essential hand strikes required to get clean sounds out of the drum, including open tones, slaps, bass hits, and heel-toe movements.
  • Traditional Afro-Cuban Rhythms: Nathan will share insights from his extensive work documenting folkloric music with El Almacén in Matanzas, Cuba, helping you unlock authentic rhythmic patterns.
  • Rhythmic Timing & Ensemble Playing: Learn how to lock into a groove, build consistency, and play cohesively alongside other drummers.
Whether you are looking to refine your technique, explore Latin percussion for the first time, or connect with the local Edmonton drumming community, this workshop offers an engaging, supportive environment
