A Mad Russian's Christmas by Paul O’Neill, Robert Kinkel and Peter I. Tchaikovsky
This amazing, challenging and fun work based on ‘Trepak’ from Tchaikovsky’s “Nutcracker” was created by three Trans-Siberian Orchestra members and released on their 1996 debut album. Hart has created yet another amazing work for handbells with optional percussion. Techniques abound in this work and include quick changes between ring and ring touch, rung and malleted notes, plus martellatos, and shakes – all which add to the excitement! There are tempo and dynamic changes offering opportunities for expression, beginning with the introduction marked q=50, which includes barely-controlled hints of what is to come. The suggested tempo for the actual Trepak theme ranges from q=128 – 138.
This is certain to be a show-stopper and a fabulously rewarding challenge for bronze level ringers. Click here to listen and view.
